Who is Al Ries?

who is al riesAl Ries is a graduate of DePauw University and has achieved a degree in liberal arts in 1951.He is a professional marketing expert and has written quite a few books on marketing strategies such as Positioning with the help of a colleague, Jack Trout. He started his career working at General Electric in advertising division and later in 1963, he became an owner of an advertising agency in New York. In 1972, Reis turned his advertising agency into a marketing agency with the help of Jack Trout and named it as Trout & Reis.

In 1990’s,  He decided to establish a marketing consulting firm called Ries & Reis  partnering with his daughter Laura Reis. Al is a well known author, he wrote eleven books on different marketing topics such as positioning, branding, advertising, focus and etc. Some of his books include Positioning: The Battle for Your Mind, Focus: The Future of Your Company Depends on It and The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing. Al’s books have made to the best selling list of Business Week’s magazine several times. In late 1990’s, PR magazine gave Al Ries the title of topmost influential person in public relations. Currently, he is a columnist on Adage.com website and runs his consulting firm with his daughter.
